The Workhouse Kitchen in Bristol’s Christmas Steps Arts Quarter

Bristol’s Christmas Steps Arts Quarter is full of quirky, independent shops, galleries, cafes and bars as well as a fab, new work and event space called The Forge which hosts a brilliant calendar of events and workshops. The whole area – eight streets to be precise – is buzzing with creativity and great place to wander and explore; which I did with a friend last week.

While there she introduced me to a small but totally fab cafe called The Workhouse Kitchen on Perry Road. Think amazing cakes, delicious baguettes, soups and salads served on wooden boards and trendy black enamelware by really friendly staff. The emphasis is on plant-based eating with many of their ingredients grown in their own allotment.

We enjoyed a chai and regular lattes served beautifully in French bistro glasses, whilst watching the diverse clientele of doctors from the hospital next door to hipsters on their laptops. Such a great little place and so worth the walk away from the central, chain-dominated shopping streets.
