Coffee & Culture Aboard The Train

At the Deptford Project in East London
Coffee & Culture Aboard The Train Tipped by The New York Times as “edgy and upcoming” and “the capital’s next tourism hotspot”, bustling Deptford High Street in South East London is home to The Deptford Project and The Train - a 1960s South East Trains carriage which has been converted into a fantastic café and bistro.

It has to be one of our favourite places to indulge in a spot of afternoon tea & homemade cake but best of all, it’s an amazingly creative space too. A work of art in itself (complete with an Elvis-themed outside loo!), The Train’s surrounding railway yard serves as an invaluable exhibition space for the hugely talented and varied artists who choose to live and work in this bustling part of London. It’s also used as a regular market plot and outdoor film screening space.

We love nothing more than a leisurely wander around the second-hand market on a Saturday morning, followed by one of The Train’s full English breakfasts. The portions are generous, the produce is all high quality and it’s topped off with an extremely well-made coffee.

This lovely article was kindly written by Sally Curtis and Esther Yarnold, admirers and keen consumers of tea, cake and creative making. Sally and Esther run Tea & Make, an events production company supporting regionally-made products, creative businesses and making-do. Outside of Tea & Make they both do many other exciting creative things.
