Hampstead's charming Ginger & White

Tucked away down a pedestrianised alley just off Hampstead High Street you’ll find Ginger & White - a very British coffee shop who, quite simply, do the best coffee I’ve tasted in London.

Their motto is ‘we don’t do grande', taking a gentle swipe at the bucket-sized cups of watered-down coffee served in the corporate coffee shop chains. Here, bigger is certainly not better! Ginger & White pride themselves on sourcing the best British ingredients and their coffee comes from City-based artisan coffee company Square Mile Coffee Roasters. Served in small china cups, it’s perfect for sipping rather than glugging.

The fantastic food is freshly cooked using ingredients sourced from around the UK. The Northfield Farm roast beef and horseradish sandwich is to die for, while the Wicks Manor slow-roasted pork studded with garlic and fennel in a bap literally melts in the mouth. Even little ones are catered for with homemade fish-finger sandwiches, and if, like me, you’ve got a pram in tow it’s wonderful to be able to sit outside while keeping well away from nasty traffic fumes.

The shop is compact and at busy times there’s a queue down the street, but I’m told that a larger flagship branch will be opening soon in nearby Queens Park, so watch this space!

Hi Paul - so sorry you missed out on Ginger & White's slow roasted pork bap. The menu does change from time to time depending on what is in season and I understand this was on their winter menu. They are now serving a yummy selection of seasonal summer dishes which are sure to be just as good.. Thank you for letting us know. Best wishes - TiYK x
