At the Butcher & Grill in Battersea

It’s fair to say that the Handpicked team is somewhat obsessed by food – we swap recipes, endlessly discuss what we’re having for lunch, and get very excited about new samples of kitchen kit. It's no surprise then that the superb Butcher & Grill, a stone’s throw from our office in Battersea, is our favourite place to indulge. Combining a deli, butchers, bar and grill, it’s like pick-and-mix for carnivores packaged in a laid-back but glam hangout.

The quality, choice and the expertise of the butchers is first rate. We could spend all day discussing the merits of aged beef versus unusual cuts of deer with the friendly staff. Muntjac might look cute, but we've now discovered it’s melt-in-the-mouth and almost impossible to cook badly. In the grill, the steaks are sublime, chips perfect, salads crunchy, and there’s an excellent wine list. You can even get breakfast, complete with punchy coffee and flaky pastries.

In winter, we love the delicious range of slow braises and stews on offer, and on a summer's day, we like to jog through lovely Battersea Park and stop to sniff the roses, before treating ourselves to a restorative sirloin.
