Nicola Ranson

Nicola grew up in Hampshire and now lives in Richmond with her boyfriend Gavin. In her spare time, she writes a blog called A Ranson Note about life, vintage, travel and her wonky crochet creations. During the day she works in communications.

Weekends are spent wandering around Kew Gardens, exploring Richmond and going on roadtrips with Gavin in their vintage MG. She’s also obsessed with bees, tapirs, biscuits and old things.

A few questions about nice things...

Who do you most admire?

I admire my little sister. Life seems to throw lots of challenges at her but she deals with them amazingly. She is very witty, an excellent writer, she’s determined and she’ll stands up for what she believes in. Plus, she’s really quite brave. Despite being a tiny thing, she once she ran down a dark alleyway to break up a fight and basically saved someone’s life. What a hero!

What are your favourite possessions?

My travel diaries, a beautiful copper bosnian coffee set we bought last year in Sarajevo, an old wicker chair left to me by my Great Auntie Eileen and two solid wooden jewellery boxes bought for me by my grandparents. Also, my Alex Monroe bumblebee necklace.

Tell us about your perfect day or weekend...

It would start early, with lots of coffee and eggs for breakfast. Then a stroll through Kew Gardens to Richmond and lunch with friends. I’d end the day with a crepe and a cidre at Chez Lindsey – a great little French restaurant overlooking the Thames.

What makes you happiest?

Spending time with my favourite people.

What would you like to do in the future?

I’d love to write a book. I think I’ve got an idea but I just need to sit down and actually write it! I’d also like to buy a campervan, do it up, make it cosy and drive it across Europe. I also hope I’ll one day finish the granny square crochet blanket I’ve been working on for the best part of three years.
